1968 Ford Bronco

← Back to map
The original Bronco was an Off-Road Vehicle, intended to compete primarily with the Jeep CJ Models and the International Scout. The Bronco began production with the 1966 model using a small riding 92-inch wheelbase. The Bronco was Fords first compact SUV and proved to be an instant success. Although very popular with the off-roaders these little work-horses found homes in a variety of different ways. They were used on Farms and ranches and were also very popular for the use of delivery vehicles in and around large cities. Some even made it to serve in the United States Military (this may have been one of those). The current owner states that this vehicle came out of a military auction in up-state New York, so after some further research with no other documentation to go on I figured out that Ford did receive Military contract that produced around 120 military Broncos from 1966-1968 and some of these remained in service until the mid-80’s. They were used in all four branches of the military and the early ones used a U15 VIN designation, which this one has. They were stamped with a plate giving details on which branch it was designated to but this one is long gone. The only other sign that it might be is the remains of the Ford Fleet Green color under the dash and under the re-paint which is the color in which they were shipped out to the Military. This vehicle is not a show queen, It was built to be enjoyed and driven. In the last 4,000 miles the Bronco has received a full engine re-build with a very mild cam. Also upgraded is a Mallory ignition, headers and Edelbrock carburetor. At the same time the transmission was replaced with an automatic. (The owner still has the column with shifter, 3-speed trans and transfer case.). The clutch is still in place but is not connected. At this time rear axle shafts, rear drive shaft, front springs and steering stabilizer were fitted. While going through the driveline components he decided to add new master cylinder, pads and drums for the brakes and new wheel cylinders. The body has been altered in two areas, the first was that the rear fenders were cut and the second is that the window channels were filled. The owner states that he still has the side windows with window frames that can be fitted back to original. Also coming with the Bronco is the original hard-top and although it is un-restored it is not rusty with the only holes are from the numerous antennae that have been fitted over the years. If you are looking for a rust-free mechanically sound early Bronco please consider this one as these are becoming harder and harder to find in this price range. Check this ad at MCG Marketplace:

1968 ford early bronco supercharged rock crawler

Price: US $42,000.00 Item location: Phippsburg, Colorado, United States

Up for auction is my 1968 bronco, this bronco took me a solid 3 years to build, initially being built to be the baddest bronco on the road. My inspiration came from seeing many nice broncos visiting moab or on 4x4 trails. It was the same story most broncos I saw had 33-35" tires a fuel injected 302 and tons of wild horses and bronco graveyard parts... That was where I wanted to part myself from that group and do something a little different. What i came up with was this...My Bronco is packing a 363 dart block splayed 4 bolt mains with AFR heads, custom fabricated fender exit headers, custom intake manifold, dyers 6-71 blower, fast fuel injection, custom cage, 44 front axle and a 60 in the rea, an extremley well thought out link suspension front and rear, King coilover shocks 18" front 14" rear, 39.5x16.5x16.5 pitbull rockers, 435 manual transmission, bronco dana 20 transfer case with black box I under drive, hydro assist steering, high steer, ARB air lockers, 35 spline chromoly rear axles, corabeau seats, marine stereo deck/speakers and much more...I used to keep a notepad on the build and wrote down every single part that I put into the truck needless to say I kinda stopped writing parts down after I hit the $50K mark, mind you this was my list on parts only and did not include the approximate 1500 hours i had in building the truck. 90% of this truck is new, only the body and frame really remain original. And No its not perfect If you are looking for a show bronco this is not the bronco for you but if your looking for the type of bronco you can break the 40" tires loose on pavement by stomping on the throttle then yes you will love my bronco. If you like the idea of having to throw an alternator belt back on in the Walmart parking lot because you just hit 6000rpm in a matter of seconds and the belts blew off because they couldn't keep up with the blower then you will love my bronco. If your idea of a good weekend is going for a cruise and setting off car alarms by accident then you will love my bronco. Finally if you can respect what it actually takes to build a project truck and use it for its intended purpose like moab slick rock or hauling ass down a BLM road just soaking up the washboards then you will love my bronco. I got married with this truck and I used to put my daughter in it and let the 3" flow masters and the whistle of the blower shake her to sleep. For me I am selling part of my family off and if you are interested in the truck i would love sell it to the right person for a very reasonable price...If you plan to recreate a story about how you built it and sell it to somebody else in 3 months then please don't bid on this truck. The right buyer is out there i just need eBays help to find that person.

Partial trades are considered and i will shut the auction down for the right offer... Please feel free to call me or text me about the bronco i can even send a video of it running ect if your a serious buyer. nine seven zero eight one nine zero three four one

La Aduana: 1968 Ford Bronco

Where I grew up in Texas the Ford Bronco was generally associated with things such as straight pipes, mudding, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and The Confederate Flag. By the time I left the state eighteen years later my opinion on the vehicle was, needless to say, less than favorable. Unfortunately, I think many people fail to see the Bronco for the great vehicle it is and quickly discount it as I did. Originally released in 1966, the Bronco was designed to be a small off road vehicle that could compete with the popular Jeep CJ and International Scout models of the day. It was a completely new platform and fairly well equipped with a straight six engine, Dana transfer case, and locking hubs as standard features. An optional Windsor V8 was soon to follow which greatly increased the Ford’s performance and helped it compete against the larger and more popular Chevrolet Blazer. While the first generation Bronco died out in 1978 the love for it did not, which inspired beautiful restorations like the one we’ve found for you today.

This 1968 is a wonderful example of a classic car that has been infused with modern equipment. The seller estimates that over $80,000 was spent during the project, and with the lengthy list of modifications, I would believe it. The previous owner started the restoration by sandblasting and re-painting the frame before attaching it to a rust free body. Keeping with the Bronco heritage, they then installed a Windsor V8 engine which was mated to a new NV4500 5 speed transmission to provide plenty of power and smooth shifting. Next the truck was lifted 2″ to accommodate larger 33″ BFG KM2s and an upgraded suspension for an improvement in the overall ride. The owner went on to install many additional modifications including a Dana 44 rear end, custom fuel tanks totaling 35 gallons, front and rear lockers, and a full roll cage.

Take a closer look on Ebay Motors here:

Here’s a look at what the seller has to say:

This is one sweet 1968 Ford Bronco 351 Windsor V8 4X4!

Wow!! If you don’t like attention I would not suggest buying this Bronco, it easily turns heads everywhere it goes and with good reason too. It doesn’t matter if you’re parking or headed down the highway. It’s sharp… clean inside and out, and fully restored. There are a ton of these out there that have been used and abused, this one’s been babied, obviously loved and well cared for, it’s a survivor. This Bronco was purchased at Mecum auction and unfortunately I just don’t have time to drive it. I travel a lot and other than the occasional trip to the grocery store, it stays parked in the garage. This custom one of a kind Bronco deserves someone who can get it more attention, drive it daily, and cherish it like the wonderful piece of Ford history that it is. Ok, so now for the good stuff. It was a full frame off restoration believed to be an investment of over 80k. The frame was sandblasted and powder coated black. Believed to be rust free California tub. It features a 351 Windsor V8 with an NV4500 5 speed transmission. Boys and girls it’s a blast to drive. Quick acceleration, smooth shifts, and great handling too. If you get behind the wheel you’ll definitely fall in love. The heads are ported and polished with roller rocker arms. The James Duffy suspension and shocks ride beautifully. It has oversized valves, a 2″ body lift, Dana 2 Split shift, Dana 44 Ford 9″ rear, Custom gas tanks; 23 gallon main tank, 12 gallon auxillary tank, On board air compressor and tank connections in front and rear, Detroit lockers front and rear with new 410 gears, Winch mount pre runner bumper with Warn Winch M8472-50, Infinity speakers with Alpine CD player, Vintage air, Flaming River tilt steering column, Rear hitch 8 point family roll cage, full safari soft top, 5 practically brand new 33×10.5×15 tires and wheels; BFG KM2’s, Custom laser one-off dash with Dakota gauges, Pro Car seats, and so much more. The list goes on and on. Bottom line is someone spared no expense in making this one bad ass Bronco. If you have any questions about this please feel free to message me and I’ll answer as soon as possible. I’m more than happy to schedule test drives if you’re in the area, and welcome all phone calls, just message me your number, and I have more pictures upon request as well. Thanks so much for your interest.
